[LOW] record shops - Amsterdam

Boudisque
Haringpakkersteeg 10-18
1012 LR Amsterdam
tel. 020-6232603
fax 020-6206079

Shop with a lot of different styles of (alternative) music and a good techno/ambient section. Bob's the one you want to talk to.
Recently, Boudisque boosted their techno-division with a lot of obscure German/Swiss labels and they have a decent amount of jungle now as well.

Concerto
Utrechtsestraat 54-60
Amsterdam
tel. 020-6235228

Not a dance-oriented place (not in the 90's meaning of this term anyway) but I mention it because they sometimes have nice second-hand records. I bought some '87 Trax stuff there.

Dance Tracks
Nieuwe Nieuwstraat 69
Amsterdam
tel. 020-6390853

Please avoid this place. Awful personnel.

Distortion Records
Westerstraat 72
1015 ML AMSTERDAM
Tel. 020-6270004

Sometimes you got those well kept secrets. Anyone heard of Distortion Records before?
Well, they sell all(!) Photek records for 15.50 gld! Anyway all those records are 15.50 and they have all the releases from at least last year from Rephlex, Warp, Metalheadz, Squarepusher etc..
Mail order too, there's a full catelogue on their website.

Get Records
Utrechtsestraat 105
Amsterdam
tel. 020-6223441

Friendly people, lots of Mo' Wax; not that much techno.

Groove Connection
Sint Nicolaasstraat 41
Amsterdam

There's some dialectic between this shop and the Mazzo-club (Cellie owns this place or something).

Jeroen W. Elfferich, 19 Mar 1996

Midtown
Nieuwendijk 104
Amsterdam

Used to be Blackbeat, Boudisque's dance music shop. Now the gabber-empire from Rotterdam runs this joint. Sometimes they have good stuff for little cash in the budget basement.

Outland
Zeedijk 22
Amsterdam
tel. 020-6387576
fax 020-6387199
email: outland@techno.de

Ground floor is your choice for the newest club music. They know almost anything about this music. I usually go to the basement immediately. Gabber and techno. Sometimes they have real gems there. Place to be if you're a wanna-be-a-trendy-house-community-member.

Platenkoning
Hasselaerssteeg
Amsterdam

Second hand shop. Very extensive yet expensive. They have some pretty rare stuff.

Jeroen W. Elfferich, 19 Mar 1996

Rhythm Import
Nieuwendijk 159
Amsterdam
tel. 020-6222867

ground floor: hiphop (which they refer to as music)
1st floor: rare groove/jungle/triphop/clothes
2nd floor: house (which they refer to as house)
Some personnel is good, some bad. Club stuff as well as american imports. Not much English stuff. Don't come here if you display allergic reactions when being confronted with Fresh fruit / Work.

Rush Hour
Spuistraat 130
Amsterdam
phn/fax: 020-4274505

If you're looking for Albanian techno records in barbed wire sleeves covered with real chicken blood, go here. They have some Hotmix/Reference etc. stuff as well. The cheapest shop around; they're not here to make money anyway. Friendly people.
